This Is Who You're Hiring

TRAVIS WEEKS

Not a faceless contracting company. Not a guru with a course. A builder who grew up in construction, has done the work across every phase, and brings that experience to every project in Seattle proper.

It Started Before He Could Drive

Travis Weeks didn't choose construction — he grew up in it. As a kid, he was on job sites alongside his grandfather and father, picking up scrap wood, cleaning up after crews, and watching how things were built from the ground up. It wasn't a summer job. It was just life.

By the time he was in his early 20s, he was building complete homes — foundations through finish work. He worked across production framing crews, learning the tips, tricks, and techniques that come from doing the same thing at scale, over and over, until it becomes second nature. Back then there was no YouTube, no social media tutorials, no easy answers. If you wanted to get better, you bought the books — Gary Katz, Journal of Light Construction — and you applied what you learned on the job the next day.

That's how Travis learned. Not in a classroom. On the tools.

About The Best Practice

When the Economy Shifted, His Knowledge Deepened

When the housing market downturn hit, Travis pivoted. His ability to read plans — developed through years of framing — landed him a role with an insulation company. But what started as a pivot became a specialization.

Energy codes were getting stricter. Builders were struggling to understand how to make their homes more airtight and energy-efficient without blowing their budgets. Travis had an advantage nobody else in the room had — he'd actually built the things he was talking about. He could walk onto a job site, look at a framing detail, and immediately see the simple, practical solution that others were overcomplicating.

Most of the green building consultants at the time were coming straight out of college — smart, but without the hands-on foundation to make their ideas buildable at scale. Travis was the opposite. He had the trade knowledge, the production experience, and the ability to translate complex energy-efficient concepts into simple, cost-effective solutions that crews could actually execute.

That combination — deep trade knowledge plus energy-efficient expertise — became the foundation of everything The Best Practice stands for today.

What We Believe

Experience Should Simplify, Not Complicate

The Right Fit Matters More Than the Next Job

Experience Should Simplify, Not Complicate

The more you know, the simpler the solution. We've seen too many builders and consultants overcomplicate projects to justify their fees. Real experience means knowing the straightforward path — and taking it.

Plain English Is a Sign of Respect

The Right Fit Matters More Than the Next Job

Experience Should Simplify, Not Complicate

If you can't explain what you're doing and why in terms a homeowner can understand, you either don't know what you're doing or you don't respect the person you're working for. We believe in straight answers, clear communication, and no runaround.

Energy Efficiency Shouldn't Cost a Fortune

The Right Fit Matters More Than the Next Job

The Right Fit Matters More Than the Next Job

High-performance, energy-efficient building is achievable at an attainable cost. It doesn't require exotic materials or complicated systems — it requires knowledge, attention to detail, and a builder who has done it enough times to know what actually works.

The Right Fit Matters More Than the Next Job

The Right Fit Matters More Than the Next Job

We don't take every project that comes through the door. We work with clients and investors who value quality, communicate clearly, and want a builder who brings real knowledge to the table. That selectivity isn't arrogance — it's how we protect the standard of every project we deliver.

From Travis

I've been in construction my whole life. I grew up watching my grandfather and my dad build things, and I never really left that world. Over the years I've framed houses, poured foundations, done finish work, and spent years figuring out how to make homes more energy-efficient in a way that actually makes sense on a job site.

What I've learned is that the best solutions are usually the simplest ones. The people who overcomplicate things are usually the ones who haven't actually done the work. I have — and that's what I bring to every project.

I started The Best Practice because I wanted to build things the right way, work with people who value that, and create something that I'm genuinely proud of. We're not trying to be the biggest builder in Seattle. We're trying to be the best one for the right clients.

If you're looking for someone who will give you straight answers, show up with real knowledge, and build something that lasts — I'd love to talk.

Built on the Right People

Travis leads every project — but The Best Practice is built around a team of trusted trades, partners, and support systems that allow us to deliver consistent quality across every job. We're selective about who we work with, just as we're selective about the projects we take on. The right people, doing the right work, on the right projects — that's how we maintain the standard.

We're also investing in the systems and support that allow us to respond faster, estimate more accurately, and communicate more clearly — because a well-run project starts long before anyone breaks ground.

Building in Seattle. Invested in Seattle.

We focus exclusively on Seattle proper — not because we can't build elsewhere, but because this is where we know the market, the neighborhoods, the permitting process, and the people. Building well in a specific place requires more than technical knowledge — it requires understanding the community you're building in and caring about what you leave behind.

Every project we complete adds to the fabric of Seattle's residential landscape. We take that seriously.
